Hi there, I’m Nigel, and I am a PhD student at Liu Lab, joining in 2026. I completed my Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Pharmaceutical Science with a Minor in Bioinformatics at the National University of Singapore, where I developed a strong foundation in drug discovery, formulation, regulation, and the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles underlying their effects in the human body. Midway through my undergraduate studies, I became interested in data-driven approaches to scientific discovery and pursued research projects in computational biology.

In 2024, I enrolled in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme in Science (UROPS) under the supervision of Dr. Liu Boxiang and Dr. Kong Li Ren, where I analysed CITE-seq data to identify cell type-specific communication networks that may explain the growth and proliferation of multiple myeloma cells in vivo. In 2025, I was attached to the Genome Institute of Singapore, where I worked under the supervision of Dr. Adaikalavan Ramasamy and Dr. Gokce Oguz on the comprehensive evaluation of cell-cell communication tools for scRNA-seq data.

My current research interests lie in applying bioinformatics to identify molecular mechanisms and therapeutic targets underlying disease. During my PhD, I aim to develop expertise in deep learning and statistical methods to support this work. Outside of research, I enjoy travelling and staying active.
